To me, to be a conservative means to conserve the good parts of America and to conserve our Constitution.
Getting ready to watch the Alabama scrimmage game on ESPN if this damn basketball game ever goes off. Anyone else going to watch it?

I had to blink when I saw this thread and chuckle a little bit.

As much as I love football and college football, I don't usually watch scrimmages.

That's some serious football craving right there, is all I can say. ;)

First chance to actually get to see what the team looks like, to a degree, as opposed to simply reading what a few sports columnist say about their practices.

There's definitely a :+1: to that.

We shall see Stinger, though I don't expect to see either team doing much "pwning" so to speak.

And yes Q, Sept. 5th, Georgia Dome. Should be a prime-time game, at least I really hope so since I'm working that day. And if you ask why I'm working on opening day, I should be getting season tickets(I got charged for them), and Tech is at home the rest of September.

So, the preview mags are out...so it must be getting close to that time of the year...

In about 10 weeks, the season will kick off with a bang. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech ought to be a helluva game for the opening weekend. I'm excited...

Thoughts on the upcoming season?

Everyone pretty much expecting Florida vs. Oklahoma again in the national title game, with perhaps Texas vs. OU being the game of the year to determine the other half?

Notre Dame should be much better. I've become a big Colin Cowherd fan as of late, and he made a point about ND that hopefully holds true. He talked about the # of combined starts on an O-Line being a great indicator of success, citing the recent undefeateds and national champs such as '04 USC, '05 Texas, '06 Boise State, '08 Oklahoma, Florida, and Utah...each with roughly 80-100 starts combined on the O-Line prior to the season. ND has 110 combined starts on the O-line, tons of playmakers, and a lot of good recruits. Team has plenty of motivation, a coach on the hot seat, and an emerging star in Jimmy Clausen (who if he plays as great as he did half the time last year for a whole season could sneak up on some folks). Clausen had better numbers than this past year's number 1 pick in the draft...

If things go the way they should, VT should go no worse than 10-2, but honestly, 12-0 isn't out of the question. Tyrod Taylor has two years of experience and the job truly is his this season from the start. All those freshmen receivers have a year of experience, and the additions of DJ Coles(6'4") and Logan Thomas(6'6") provide some extra tall targets if they don't redshirt. The line should be improved over last year and by far better than the year before. And Darren Evans with Ryan Williams will be the best running back combo in Blacksburg since Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones...and it may prove to be better than the Suggs/Jones duo when it's all said and done. For the first time in several years, the offense shouldn't have to depend on the defense to hold someone to 17 or less to have a good chance to win.

Defensively is where some holes need to be filled, namely at linebacker and in the secondary. They'll have to get that squared away in a hurry with three of the first four games being against 'Bama, Nebraska and Miami.

Tech could be a surprise national title contender. I'd certainly enjoy seeing an ACC team in the mix for a change. ACC will be interesting this year. Tech seems to be the team to beat, but there are a lot of other teams with potential. Florida State just seems to be waiting in the wings to have a breakout season. Christian Ponder has the potential to be a really good QB. North Carolina, as much as it pains me to say it, has a shot at being really good, too. Tom O'Brien seems to have righted the ship at NC State, with a stud QB in Russell Wilson and solid talent surrounding him. Miami could bounce back. Georgia Tech might be the most underrated team in the country.

Lots of a solid, but not yet spectacular teams in the ACC...and we haven't even talked about the perenially tough to beat Maryland, Virginia, and Wake Forest teams

Yeah Chad, Georgia Tech will be a very dangerous team. Especially since Va Tech has to go down there this year.

Edit: Hey Q. Sept. 19th, 2015. Buckeyes...in Blacksburg. You coming?

OK, so we're down to 2 months away from opening weekend.

Who is everybody's top five storylines to watch in '09?

I'd have to say OU, Florida, and Texas will be one big storyline to watch this year, because they are clearly the 3 front runners to get to the title game. Can't really argue with that, yet. OU has to replace a lot of O-Line starters, so I'd give Texas the nod at the moment. Colt McCoy is my favorite for Heisman
