![]() Anyone been watching/following the premiere season of this league? They're in week 2 right now. Four teams, so I have a 1 in 4 chance of successfully predicting that Florida will be the inaugural champions. In another minute and a half, they'll be 2-0 and they look pretty good. I support this league, in large part because I hate the NFL. It'll be even better next year when they hopefully increase to 8 teams. Unless Alabama gets a team (I do miss the Thunderbolts), Florida will be my team in this league. Don't care for the name Tuskers though. The New York Sentinels should be in Washington though

Yeah all their games come on TV. Most of the games, including the Championship Game, come on Versus. These are the games I can watch. The other games come on HDNet, which I don't get. Schedule: http://www.ufl-football.com/schedule They have Doug Flutie doing commentary, at least for the games on Versus. I like their short halftimes with the camera going inside the locker rooms so you can hear what the coaches/coordinators are saying uncensored. Go Tuskers! Rules that differ from the NFL: Like previous football leagues, the UFL has instituted several mostly minor rules changes that will differ from the NFL's rules. Though the league has indicated it would mostly adhere to standard rules, there are a few differences, as follows: No Tuck Rule - In the NFL, if a passer brings his arm forward in a passing motion and then loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body, it is considered a forward pass (and thus an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground). This "tuck rule" is one of the most controversial rules in the NFL; in the UFL, however, it will be called a fumble. Touchdown celebrations - Player celebrations (individual or group) are permitted only in the end zones or the bench areas. Fumbling out of the end zones - If the ball is fumbled out of the end zone, it will be placed back at the spot of the fumble, depending on which team last had possession. Intentional grounding - A quarterback is allowed to intentionally ground the ball to avoid a sack, provided he gets the throw back to the line of scrimmage. He does not have to be outside the pocket to do so. Blitzing/Rushing - The defense must use 4 down linemen each play (who must be in a 3- or 4-point stance at the snap). No more than 5 defenders may blitz: the linemen and one linebacker, who must start either outside his adjacent offensive tackle, or at least 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage, without restriction. Penalty for violating this rule is illegal defense (signaled as unsportsmanlike conduct), with a 15-yard penalty and a first down. As each team carries only 2 QB's, whose experience in professional ball is limited, the league wanted to ease them into having to handle pro defenses (and to try to minimize injury risk to the starting QB, who is most often far superior to his backup in ability and play knowledge). The rule is scheduled to be eliminated after the 2009 season. Instant replay - All reviews will be viewed upstairs by the replay official, who will have 90 seconds to make a ruling. Overtime - Instead of the sudden-death overtime approach used by the NFL, the UFL's overtime rules ensure that both teams get at least one possession. Therefore, if one team scores on the opening drive of OT, the opposing team has the chance to equal that score, or surpass it if the first team's first drive resulted in anything less than a touchdown and 2-point conversion. If the score remains tied after 15 minutes, the game ends in a tie.. Officials - instead of the traditional black-and-white uniforms, UFL officials wear red polo shirts with black numbering and letters, and black pants. The crews' caps remain the same as in the NFL (white for the referee, black for the other officials). Chain crew and markers - Instead of bright orange, the chain crews' equipment (including vests, yardage "sticks", and down markers) are lime green, one of the UFL's signature colors. |

Hey man your clock won't flush!!!

I think it will last a year. And I REFUSE to watch a league that would give NANCY PELOSI'S FAMILY A FRANCHISE! Piss on this league. |

Well they didn't give Nancy's husband a franchise, he bought one. No upstart that is expecting lose millions in its first few seasons would turn down an investment because of who someone is married too. I think he only owns half the team anyway, I'm pretty sure all the teams are owned half by the league and half by someone (Pelosi for the Redwoods, The Orlando Rays for the Tuskers). Besides that, his team doesn't look very good. Six games in the season, I'll say they win no more than two tops (I'll actually predict 1 win for them). Sand a lot of guys who have played in the NFL and college. No real stand out guys to me that I have a memory of, save for Mike Doss (Tuskers), Tim Rattay (Locos) and J. P. Losman (Locos). You being an NFL fan would probably know more of the players. |

I am only keeping up with LV, and I say "keeping up" by looking up scores, because my old friend from college, Josh Mallard, is playing for them. I won't watch a game. I told him he should have just signed back with the Falcons practice squad and they would call him up again, but...

A guy I knew thru a buddy at Princeton, Jon Dekker, plays tight end for the Florida team. I looked up the rosters after seeing Stinger's post this morning. Three of the 4 coaches are big names...Denny Green, Jim Haslett, and Jim Fassel |

Yeah Verses is the only one I get. Wish I had HDNet though, this football, MMA and Ring of Honor... would be a nice station to have. Next game on VS is California Redwoods vs. Florida Tuskers on October 22nd at 7:00 PM EST. The Redwoods didn't look impressive last week, but Florida is. I'll go with Florida, 38-17. |
