A Bundy never wins, but a Bundy never quits.
As has been said before, "Never too early, never enough."

Put in my renewal for VT season tickets this past weekend. Also put in for some tickets to the VT/Boise State game up at FedEx Field for Labor Day.

Seriously. What does it take to get at least kicked off the team if not out of the school with some of these colleges?

If memory serves me, VT booted Marcus Vick for less than this. Pretty sure he didn't go waving a gun around until after he was booted. If I'm wrong, it's because I've tried to forget his miserable existence.

If I had to pick one of these that really floors me...one game for James??? One game??? Seriously, I'm all for giving people a chance to mend their ways, but one game??? Does Chip Kelly think this is the old NCAA game where you could get away with minimal suspensions??? I'm sure they will really miss him against New Mexico.

If anyone has Labor Day Weekend plans in the DC area, tickets for the VT/Boise State game are now available on ticketmaster and at the Redskins' box office.

Odds and ends:

This is just the first of many moves to come.

Is the crazy 16-team Pac-10/Big 12 merger next?

This opening line made my jaw drop

The Big 12 appears to be dead.

Wow. Where'd this come from?

Nebraska and Mizz are going to the Big 10. I think that's nuts.

I also have seen the usual "Notre Dame Big 10" articles start to surface and it's the same thing over and over again: ND has NOTHING to gain by joining any conference whatsoever. They can keep on dreaming.

Then of course we come to USC.

No surprises here:

Reports: NCAA hands USC two-year ban on bowls, loss of scholarships

Quote:

Two media outlets are reporting the NCAA has decided to ban Southern California's football team from the postseason for two years and strip the program of scholarships.

The Los Angeles Times reported the NCAA sanctions include the loss of more than 20 scholarships. ESPN.com reported Wednesday night that the Trojans will forfeit wins "from at least the 2004 season."

USC is also expected to face probation and possible limits on football recruiting contacts after the NCAA's four-year investigation into the school.

The NCAA's report could be released Thursday, although school officials wouldn't confirm Wednesday they had received the NCAA's report or planned to address it when it was made public. The NCAA infractions committee held a hearing with USC officials last February, and its report has been expected weekly since April.

USC's penalties are expected to stem primarily from widespread allegations of improper benefits for Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Reggie Bush during his three seasons at the school. The NCAA, the Pac-10 and even the FBI conducted investigations into the Bush family's business relationships and USC's responsibility for the culture around its marquee football team.

The Trojans' football team won seven straight Pac-10 championships and two national titles during the past decade under Pete Carroll, who left to coach the NFL's Seattle Seahawks after last season.

No BCS conference football programs have been banned from postseason play over the past seven years, but the NCAA has been expected to make an example of USC, one of the highest-profile programs in the country.

USC's players are expected to be told about the sanctions at a meeting Thursday morning.

"For real it's out of our hands but I'm praying that the things they are saying aren't true," senior linebacker Malcolm Smith wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday night.

Last year, the NCAA reportedly bundled its Bush probe with its look into the men's basketball program. USC self-sanctioned the basketball program four months ago over its recruitment of former player O.J. Mayo by former coach Tim Floyd, who was accused of giving cash to a middleman who helped steer Mayo to USC. The Trojans banned themselves from postseason play last season, reduced their scholarships and limited their recruiting.

We knew the days of great USC football were over and it was blatantly obvious that Pete Carroll was bolting the hell out of Dodge.

It was clear the NCAA hammer was coming down. No surprise here whatsoever.

To me, to be a conservative means to conserve the good parts of America and to conserve our Constitution.
Wow crazy stuff.

It has been expressed to Orangebloods.com by a top collegiate executive that any movement toward four, 16-team super conferences will be met with resistance by Congress.

The executive said that could be bad news for college athletics because Congress has already taken some cursory looks at the fact athletic departments enjoy a tax-exempt status as part of their universities.

The executive said if it appears the rich are getting richer in college athletics, there will be a hard look at whether to take away the tax exempt status of athletic departments.

"And it won't just be Orin Hatch (a member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee from Utah and longtime BCS critic) looking into this," the source said.

Good lord. Congress has nothing better to do?

They also want to get involved in that blown "perfect pitch" baseball game from a week ago, too.

Colorado is going to the PAC-10.

But this would create less automatic BCS bids, they should be in favor of giving more mid-majors a chance to make it.

Anyway, I was thinking about this off and on today, pondering what I would do if I were in charge. If I were going to dissolve a conference, it sure as hell wouldn't be the Big 12. *'s notate teams I would add. Here's what I'd do if I were creating 16 team Super Conferences:

^^Here is your problem. SMU doesn't have the following or student numbers to go SEC.

If I am the Big 12 I am grabbing TCU and Boise State and giving Colorado, Nebraska, and Pac 10 the finger.

SEC should grab up Missouri and Clemson while they can to add two more.

I was running low on teams, and SMU would give the SEC a small foot into the Texas market. I also considered Tulane for that spot, but you know they would love to get into Texas, or at least it said so in an article I read.

Besides, I did that in about 10 minutes and figured it would create some discussion...and I think I managed to re-assign each member of the Big East :-)

I'd rather grab Mizzou or TCU. SMU is worthless to the SEC, it's like grabbing Baylor. And if I am Baylor I am looking at legal tactics against the Big 12 board for leaving them out in the cold. I'm sure they will get pulled into the WAC or Mountain West, but still, not being invited to the Pac 10 because you are a religious school is bullshit. I really think the Texas/OK schools need to bear down on this and fight it, bring in TCU/Boise State as I said, don't let the conference fall apart.

Yes, Mizzou or TCU would be preferable, but again, I did this in 10 minutes and kept the existing members of all those conferences in place, so Mizzou wasn't going anywhere in my little shift from reality there. I was also getting to the bottom of the barrel by that point and didn't really want to dig into the Sun Belt Conference. Does the SEC really need another powerhouse anyway? Louisville and South Florida have both put together fairly solid programs in the recent past and wouldn't exactly be doormats(which SMU likely would be, and I'm sure Vandy and Mississippi State would welcome someone new in that position).

Anyway, just thought it would be a fun little exercise. Boise State would be a great fit in either the Pac-10 or the Big 12, and with Colorado bailing and Nebraska on the verge of running away, I'd be lining up the Broncos and probably TCU to be my new members if I were the conference president.

Guess they'll be calling these the PAC-25, the Big-25 and such at the rate this is looking to go.
