lol... Teddy Long's character has been showing signs of mental instability lately with his dealing with heels. I say that after reading the account of this and the ShowMiz gauntlet match at Extreme Rules where he kept adding team after team to the match in response to Miz's not shutting up.

But that aside if this means Drew is being removed from Smackdown, this further escalates the ridiculousness of the Raw raid that was the draft. If they're going to restore SD once the SyFy deal starts, it's going to take a huge booking shake up of some kind... which then of course, just cheapens the concept of the original draft, which was such a "big deal" to fans this year that it got a whopping 3.0 rating...

Agreed, but obviously they're going to have to do something quite major once October rolls around. If they don't it'll be past senseless.

Matt Striker called out the NXT rookies to ringside. A replay of last night's RAW victory for the NXT rookies over the RAW superstars was shown.

Michael Tarver was eliminated as the first NXT rookie. He was visibly upset...taking his shirt off and throwing it into the crowd.

Daniel Bryan was also eliminated as well.

Another "pros poll" will take place later tonight, and one additional talent could be eliminated.

Wade Barrett vs. Heath Slater was confirmed for one-on-one action for tonight's broadcast.

Wade Barrett defeated Heath Slater with a vicious throw to the mat for the three-count.

Michael Traver was interviewed by Matt Striker backstage ... and wished the best in his future endeavors.

Skip Sheffield (with William Regal in his corner) defeated Darren Young.

Matt Striker interviewed Daniel Bryan backstage .. Bryan said that Daniel Bryan may be eliminated, but strongly hinted we have not see the last of Bryan Danielson.

David Otunga defeated Justin Gabriel with his spinebuster / chokeslam finisher.

A history of WrestleMania video package was shown; cross promoting WrestleMania XXVII, the forthcoming Wrestlemania in Atlanta.

Wade Barrett as #1, David Otunga as #2, Justin Gabriel as #3, Heath Slater as #4, & Darren Young as #5 in the "pros poll." Skip Sheffield was last...and was subsequently eliminated. Matt Striker interviewed Sheffield, asking him for his comments on being eliminated. He said we have not seen the last of him.

This doesn't make sense...why was Daniel Bryan eliminated? I thought there would only be 1 elimination?

What happened to Daniel Bryan being #1 in the pro's poll?

Well, pro's poll aside, his win/loss record would be justification on the kayfabe front... I mean, it's puzzling the way they've done this... but looking at this from the perspective of "if it were real".... no one has been made to look like a bigger loser than Daniel Bryan, aside from the rare exception when he's in there with a main eventer.

Even if they come out with the storyline that he wasn't "trying" to win those matches... then still, he deserved to be eliminated on those grounds anyway. If I'm running this thing (again looking at it from an if-real perspective) and giving a bunch of new guys a shot at a WWE contract, and one of those guys goes out there and deliberately half asses it, I'm cutting him... regardless of talent level... he could be Ric Flair, HBK, The Rock, Stone Cold and Bret Hart all rolled up into one, but if he's not going to put forth the effort to actually compete... then "see ya"...

I'm assuming this means Bryan will be moved to Raw or SD (preferably the latter) and given a new start there, without having to wait for the NXT deal to conclude. So essentially (if I'm right) this is for the best since DB on NXT was, aside from a few highlights, a complete waste... and the less said about it moving forward, the better.

EDIT:

I'm calling it: Bret Hart chooses Bryan to sub for him against Miz on Raw. Bryan wins US title.

Hey man your clock won't flush!!!

Venue: HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY

SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long came out to start the show in the ring, with the WWE Intercontinental Championship draped over his shoulder; he announced the first match would be the finals of the IC Title Tournament between Christian & Kofi Kingston.

Kofi Kingston defeated Christian via the trouble in paradise to become the new WWE IC champion.

Drew McIntyre came out the ring, gave Teddy Long a piece of paper, forcing Long to strip Kingston of the IC title, leaving a major cliffhanger on this angle.

Matt Striker read the letter that McIntyre gave to Long, which was from Vince McMahon; in it, McIntyre was reinstated and recognized still as the IC champion.

They showed Jack Swagger watching over some guys unloading boxes from a truck backstage.

Shad Gaspard def. a local competitor via his finisher.

MVP and JTG defeated The Dudebusters, Caylen Croft and Trent Trent Barreta.

Backstage vignette with CM Punk & the SES...Punk told Luke Gallows & Serena he would be coming to the ring alone tonight in his match vs. Rey Mysterio, based on their doubt they showed in him the previous week.

Jack Swagger came out go the ring, with all of his trophies, plaques, & certificates he accomplished in his life surrounding him...including his collegiate letterman jacket, his Eagle Scout uniform, etc. He unveiled a picture of himself wearing a wrestling uniform when he was little at the age of five. Swagger then unveiled a picture of himself winning his third state wrestling title .. plus, the crown of himself as the homecoming king of his high school. He then showed a picture of himself in his Oklahoma Sooners uniform, with Bob Stoops beside him. Swagger kept touting his personal success .. including a deli in Oklahoma naming a sandwich named him, called "The Swagger. After Swagger continued on talking about winning the National Scrabble Championship, The Big Show came down to the ring; Swagger told Show to get his vienna sausage fingers off his stuff. Show then broke Swaggers 2004 ballroom dancing championship trophy after twirling it down to the ground. Show destroyed the set up, taking down all of Swaggers pictures, destroying his trophies...and yes...even punting Swagger's football into the HSBC Arena crowd.

Theodore Long announced a match for the World Heavyweight Championship, between Swagger & The Big Show, which will be a dark match for the crowd in attendance after the tapings.

Up next and initially scheduled was Beth Phoenix vs. Rosa Mendes. Vickie Guerrero then came out, forced Mendes to the back, and scheduled a two-on-one handicap match between "The Glamazon" and Michelle McCool/Layla. The WWE Womens Championship was on the line; despite a valiant effort by Phoenix, which included picking up both divas together & taking them down to the canvas, Phoenix lost the gold after a double-team effort by LeyCool. Your new WWE Women's Champion: Layla

Phoenix however did get one of the biggest pops of the night, including a standing ovation from the crowd; the match also saw a nice "Let's go Buffalo" chant echo tnroughout the HSBC Arena.

Kane def. Chavo Guerrero via a chokeslam.

In a backstage vignette, Theodore Long told Drew McIntyre he would be facing The Big Show on next Friday night's edition of SmackDown.

While running down ghe card for the Over The Limit PPV, they confirmed The Big Show challenging Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Rey Mysterio def. CM Punk via disqualification, after interference from Luke Gallows, a hooded Serena, and their hooded accomplice; Punk placed Mysterio in the go to sleep, and ended the show in unison with the SES pleding together.

Gallows and Sarena are running down young drinking in Canada. Punk leads the Straight Edge Pledge. All three have their heads shaved bald. Rey Mysterio comes out and shows photos on the screen of what Punk would look like bald. An irate Punk attacks all the pledges out of frustration.

* Layla and Michelle McCool (announced as the co-Women's champions) defeated Tiffany and Kelly Kelly.

* Big Show does a promo on the Titantron making fun of Jack Swagger.

* JTG pinned Caylen Croft.

* Rey Mysterio & MVP defeated CM Punk & Luke Gallows. Mysterio gets the pin on Punk, despite an attempt by the hooded S.E.S. member to interfere.

* Big Show defeated WWE Intercontinental champ Drew McIntyre by DQ.

*SPOILERS* WWE Smackdown Taping Results for 7/2/10
Posted by LordsofPain.net on June 30, 2010 at 12:15 AM

A video aired with Kane over a coffin. He said he would decapitate C.M. Punk tonight. They replayed footage from last week with Kane vs. Punk, and announced Kane vs. Luke Gallows for later in the show.

Jack Swagger came to the ring for a promo. He looked pissed. Big Show interrupted with a mic on the stage. He was limping, apparently selling the effects of Swagger’s ankle lock from last week. Big Show headed to the ring and said he was going to break Swagger’s jaw.

Cody Rhodes jumped Big Show and a two-on-one beatdown took place. World Hvt. Champion Rey Mysterio came out and helped clear the ring.

It was announced that Kane, Matt Hardy, Cody Rhodes, Christian, Kofi Kingston, and Big Show will compete in the Smackdown version of the Money in the Bank match at the July pay-per-view.

Jack Swagger came out again and invoked his rematch clause. Teddy Long said it would be Mysterio vs. Swagger in a cage match tonight. It appears this will be the dark match main event since they are now advertising Swagger and Cody vs. Show and Mysterio for the television show.

1. Kofi Kingston beat Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler came out and was arguing with Vickie Guerrero. Kofi win after a kick to the head in about five minutes. Ziggler and Vickie bickered throughout the match. Vickie was pissed that he lost and left to good heat.

C.M. Punk was shown with his arm in a sling as the crew set up for The Peep Show, which included ladders being set up in the ring.

Christian came out in street clothes for The Peep Show. Matt Hardy came out next and got the biggest pop of the night thus far. I don’t know where the criticism comes from, but Hardy is way over.

Hardy is reinstated and it was mentioned that Drew is out because of visa issues. They argued over who will win the MITB match, but agree they both deserve it. Hardy got the best of Christian and threw him into the ladders.

There was a video with a promo by soldiers in Iraq. They set up pyro around the ring, so apparently Kane is next.

Alberto Del Rio was featured in a vignette on the Titan Tron.

Cody Rhodes was looking in a mirror telling himself he’s dashing. He said his motivation for attacking Big Show earlier was the Money in the Bank match.

2. Kane beat Luke Gallows (w/C.M. Punk) by DQ. Punk was wearing a sling. The DQ occurred when the masked Straight Edge Society member ran in. Kane chokeslammed the masked man and Gallows.

Kane grabbed Punk, but Serena came out with a mic in hand and a video played of her doing shots with some guy in a bar. Punk walked into the bar and scattered the drinks. He gave her a hard time for drinking. This was security video that featured a time and date. Kane left and Serena begged for forgiveness. The Straight Edge Society left her behind.

3. MVP beat Chavo Guerrero. Chavo took the mic before the match and said he deserves an Intercontinental Title show if he wins the match. MVP won with some kind of twisting face buster.

A promo was shown for Ricky Steamboat’s DVD. Matt Striker was on the mic taking video footage of the crowd and their signs.

A “This Week in History” feature focussed on Yokozuna and Lex Luger and the bodyslam contest, plus the SummerSlam 93 match…

4. Kelly Kelly (w/Tiffany) beat Michelle McCool (w/Layla). Kelly Kelly came out with another Diva (assuming it was Tiffany). LayCool came out and attacked Kelly, then sprayed perfume around. Kaval was not with them tonight. Kelly won the match with a roll up. The crowd was flat for this one.

There was another Iraq video, and a second Albert Del Rio vignette.

Rey Mysterio came out and cut a promo in the ring about winning the World Hvt. Championship at the Fatal Four Way pay-per-view. It will be Rey vs. Swagger at the pay-per-view.

A Nexus video highlight package was shown.

5. Rey Mysterio and Big Show beat Jack Swagger and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes in DQ. Swagger refused to release the ankle lock when Rey was in the ropes. Rey got his pant leg torn pretty good.

They are already setting up for NXT. I saw a keg out there. Not as many boos for Michael Cole as one might expect.

Likely Dark Match

Teddy Long came out and said he received an email from the anonymous general manager and both agreed to have a U.S. Title match. Miz came out and got great heat for mispronouncing Wilkes-Barre as he noted that he won the title the last time they were there. John Morrison cut a promo and referred to Miz as “hefty.”

1. The Miz beat John Morrison to retain the U.S. Title. Miz attacked Morrison at ringside and threw him into the crowd. Miz played to the crowd while Morrison struggled to get back inside the ring. Matt Striker ran to the back for unknown reasons. Miz put Morrison in a Texas Cloverleaf, but he got to the ropes.

Morrison missed Starship Pain. Miz came back with the Skull Crushing Finale and scored the pin to win the match. After the match, the referees changed the ring ropes to yellow for NXT.

Report by Phil R. and ProWrestling.net

--Looks like the SES is done considering Punk is out with injury, and Serena is now kicked out.

- MVP vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Dolph Ziggler. Winner gets in the MITB. Ziggler wins after the sleeper on MVP.

- Interview with Kelly Kelly. It's announced that Kelly Kelly will face Layla for the title at MITB. Layla comes and sprays Kelly with perfume. Kelly attacks her and then Michelle McCool attacks her from behind. They ask Kaval to attack Kelly and he refuses.

- It was announced that Nexus would be returning home to NXT next week.

- Big Show vs. Jack Swagger. Match ends in a count out. Swagger attacks Big Show's leg and goes backstage and is met by Kane. Kane takes him into a room. Kane says Swagger has a week to prove he didn't take out The Undertaker or he will burn in hell.

- Thanks to Prowrestling.net for these spoilers from tonight’s SmackDown tapings:

Smackdown begins as Kane starts out the show celebrating the title win. He recapped his MITB win and cashing in on Rey Mysterio. Kane said he did it for his brother the Undertaker
and brought the title back to the dark side. He vowed to not rest until he finds his brother’s culprit.

Jack Swagger vs. Rey Mysterio in a 2 out of 3 falls match to determine the No. 1 contender was announced.

1. Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes defeated Christian and Matt Hardy. Christian and Hardy had the advantage most of the match. Christian dove to the outside on Rhodes and McIntyre. Rhodes took advantage for his team. He tagged in McIntyre, who had a field day with Christian.

Rhodes was tagged back on. Christian tagged in Hardy, who took out McIntyre. Hardy gave McIntyre a tornado DDT from the turnbuckle into a pin only for Rhodes to distract the referee from counting the pinfall. Rhodes and McIntyre ended up winning the match. After the match, Christian and Hardy shook hands. Katelyn said it was a “very, very good match.”

Swagger was interviewed by Josh Matthews. He talked about how he will beat Mysterio and then go on to beat Kane at Summerslam
.

A LayCool promo started as they boasted about their win against Kelly Kelly on Sunday. They gave each other best friend necklaces. Teddy Long walked up and told Layla that she will be defending her title against Tiffany next week.

2. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Kofi Kingston (w/Michael McGillicutty) in a non-title match. This was a pretty even match up. Both superstars scored some offensive moves throughout the bout. Michael McGillicutty got sent to the back due to Vickie Guerrero influencing the referee as Kofi was outside selling being thrown over the ropes.

Kofi reentered the ring as Ziggler continued to take advantage. As Ziggler went for a leg drop, Kofi rolled him into a pin for a 2 count. Kofi regains control only to be distracted by Vickie Guerrero. Ziggler puts Kofi in the sleeper for the win. After the match, Ziggler poses over Kofi with the Intercontinental Title. Dolph tries to leave with IC belt, but the ref wouldn’t let him. Vickie comforted Dolph.

3. Big Show defeated the SES Masked Man. Show unmasked him to prove once and for a that Joey Mercury is straight edge. Show put the mask on and then chokeslammed Mercury for the pin in a short match.

Mysterio cut a promo hyping the number one contenders match.

An Alberto Del Rio vignette aired.

4. Rey Mysterio defeated Jack Swagger in a best of three falls match to become the No. 1 contender to the World Hvt. Championship. The match started as Swagger pushed Mysterio into the turnbuckle to take opening advantage of the match. There was a lot of back and forth action early. Swagger continued to work on Rey giving him a belly to back.

Swagger remained in control of the match. He took out Rey’s knee on the turnbuckle. Swagger scored a lot of close two counts. He threw Rey into the ropes only for Rey to jump off the ropes onto swagger a two count. Rey went to setup the 619 on Swagger only to come short. Swagger put Rey into the ankle lock. Rey made it to the ropes. Swagger refused to let go and was disqualified,so Rey won the first fall.

Jack won second fall by making Rey tape out with the ankle lock. Short match. Rey went for the 619 and Jack caught him.

Swagger and Rey fought outside. Swagger threw Rey back inside the ring and continued on the offensive. Rey reverses the gut wrench powerbomb into a pinfall to get the pin and become number one contender for Kane’s title.

Jack went after Rey after the bell. Kane ran down and took out Jack. Kane held up Rey’s hand. Kane left the ring and then returned and went to chokeslam Rey, who turned it into the 619. Rey ran away.

Finally Mercury is revealed!
