![]() Well, it has become a tradition that I post the next Wrestlemania thread the day after the latest Mania ends. So, here it is...as was mentioned during the Bret Hart-Vince McMahon feud this year, "Living in the past...there's no future in it." Thus, I present a sample card for next year's Wrestlemania...or, at least, the top matches.... Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison - 2010 is a banner year for John Morrison. As 2011 approaches, it looks as if it could be the year that he ascends to superstardom. He fails to win the Rumble, but looks great after being in the final four. He is unable to win the #1 contendership in the Elimination Chamber, as well. Chris Jericho, having also failed in his two attempts to be in the main-event at Mania, cuts a promo on the SD after the EC PPV about Shawn Michaels. He talks about how Wrestlemania has featured HBK in so many show stealing moments in the last 8 years...and with his retirement the grand daddy of them all needs a new Mr. Wrestlemania to be its new showstopper. Jericho proclaims himself to be that man. Cue Morrison, who takes issue with Jericho making such claims and reminds the "best in the world at what he does" of the similarities between himself and HBK. From there, Jericho sets out to embarrass JoMo for the next several weeks, costing him matches and trying to lower his confidence. Sheamus vs. Undertaker - Shortly after Mania 26, rumors swirl that Taker - though he defeated HBK at Mania 26 - will be soon be retiring himself. He comes back from a hiatus in the fall. By then, Sheamus has moved to Smackdown and firmly established himself as one of the top heel characters. The Celtic Warrior and Deadman are kept apart until the Royal Rumble, when Undertaker eliminates Sheamus. At the following month's Elimination Chamber PPV, Taker again costs Sheamus a chance to main-event Wrestlemania. Determined to get revenge, Sheamus sets his sights on confirming the rumors and ending the Deadman's career. He defeats Kane, Jake Roberts, Jimmy Snuka, Mark Henry, and Big Show in "Streak Myth" matches, and also cites his victories over Orton and Triple H - all the while attempting to prove that he can do anything Taker can do...and that he's the new phenom set to TAKE the torch whether Taker is ready to pass it or not. Triple H vs. Edge - Upon being drafted to Raw, Edge and Triple H put aside their past differences and strike up a friendship of sorts. Since both like to joke around and have fun, they take over the old DX schtick of providing the campy comedy that Raw loves to feature. They eventually take the Unified Tag Team titles and have a multi-month reign traveling to both shows. As Wrestlemania season approaches toward the end of 2010, Edge mentions how he would like nothing more than to main-event his fourth consecutive Wrestlemania. Triple H shares his goal of getting back to the main-event, as well. In a triple threat #1 contender's match for TLC, Edge wins after accidentally spearing Triple H, reversing a Christian pin attempt and scoring the win. He loses at TLC, though, as CM Punk escapes by the hair of his chin. In January, a 4-way #1 contender's match occurs on Raw in which Edge again accidentally spears Triple H, yet goes onto win and earn another title shot at the Rumble. At the Rumble, Edge appears to have the title won, but Triple H Pedigrees him and Punk retains. Post-match, Triple H beats the holy hell out of Edge. World Title Match: Randy Orton vs. The Miz (c) - Randy Orton becomes a full-fledged babyface in the summer of 2010, but very much a rogue with no conscience or remorse. No one is safe from the Viper. He gets drafted to SD and immediately engages in a feud with World Champion Chris Jericho, trading the title with him for the better part of the summer and gaining popularity all the while. Meanwhile, The Miz also goes to SD and has a great feud in the mid-card with John Morrison that elevates both of them in the eyes of the fans. The Miz shocks everyone in July by winning the main-event of the inaugural Money in the Bank PPV. He cashes in and wins the title from Orton at the end of the TLC PPV. Orton and Miz have a contract signing the next week for their year end rematch to air on the December 31 SD. During the rematch, Miz gets initionally DQ-ed. Orton shows up the next week wanting a rematch, but Miz has outsmarted him. Like everyone does, Orton signed a contract without so much as glancing at it...yet, the contract read that as long as Miz won the rematch, Orton wouldn't get another. Orton wins the Rumble again to earn his shot. The Miz arranges for Orton to defend his Mania title shot in the EC the next month, but he survives...the cat and mouse game continues until Mania. WWE Championship Match: CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena - CM Punk wins the WWE Championship in the summer of 2010 and completely takes off as a heel leader of the Raw roster he was drafted to in the spring. His ever growing Straight Edge society helps him defend his belt at every turn, getting him victories over Triple H, Christian, Edge, and Kane. He gains mega-heat and becomes wildly entertaining all the same during several memorable microphone encounters with The Rock. Yet, at the 2011 Elimination Chamber PPV, a new number one contender for the WWE Championship is crowned. He is in most ways the exact opposite of the CM Punk character. An All-American pretty boy that the girls love...the jock who was captain of the football team...the hero of the WWE and the golden boy who Punk had managed to avoid the entirety of his title reign to that point. John Cena gets through the EC and sets his sights on the WWE title. At one point during the build-up, Cena's "wife" is taken out of the crowd and has her head shaved while Cena is forced to watch. The controversy swarms as Punk accuses Cena of steroid use and even introduces a "fixed" video highlight reel of Cena on national TV shows "admitting" (in the places where he denies it in real life) to it. Cena gains a measure of revenge by spiking Punk's drink, causing Punk to parade around (acting) drunk. Who would've thought that Bret Hart would come back for a match this year? Could Goldberg do that next year? Will there be a crop of new stars in the top matches? One would surmise that guys like Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger might end up in big matches along with the previously mentioned new guys in the above scenarios... |

Miz and Swagger are officially my guys to watch in 2010. Miz is a safe bet I think to be a big player by WM27 time. Swagger has the look and the in ring chops, but could use some seasoning on the stick... Miz vs. Orton could be a huge program. I'd love to see Orton in his "Apex Predator" type role playing the face to Miz's cocky snide heel character... That'd be good stuff for sure. |

Man, that'd be a wild feud. Good ideas in this thread already!
